Special Needs Children & Their Peers

Children, being innocent and unwise to what they say and do at times, often make fun of those with special needs. Not because they do not care, but mostly because they do not understand. Children have a habit of doing this mostly because they are young and do not know better while there are still adults who make a habit of doing this just the same, even though they know they should not be doing it because it is wrong. These adults also most likely are guilty because they are either unwise, child-like in mentality, or perhaps they too do not understand or they are afraid. Making excuses for their actions does not make it ok or correct but it does shed a little light onto why people do what they do or say what they say.

Because of this insensitivity, or perhaps it could just be called ignorance of what they are doing, it should be more important than ever to have more special needs jobs available where people who are trained special needs teachers actually go out and lecture to those without special needs, letting them know exactly what it means to be a person with "special needs". They should be out teaching both people who need special needs jobs, teaching people who have no idea what special needs is, and teaching people with special needs how to deal with people who do not understand them. There should be a special needs jobs in every school, in every college, a teaching jobs that helps those that are afraid of special needs children and adults or those that do not understand them; a job that helps them to understand what it means and how hard it is to live their life as a special needs person. Maybe this would reduce the amount of ignorant comments and mistakes made by many people all over the world.

Children, sometimes being the biggest offenders of the mistaken comments and actions, could also benefit from more "training" from a special needs teacher, even if they themselves are not special needs kids. Their training should involve allowing them to meet with and become friends with those with special needs, even helping those with special needs, thereby becoming more comfortable with them and allowing them to understand and not be afraid as they grow older. This, of course, would have to be allowed by the children's parents.
